August 30, 2010

Wow, things have been pretty busy! My goal was to finish this journal by my year mark, and that didn't happen. So now I hope I finish it by the end of my mission. Things have been going well here in SF. Two weeks ago we had a 4 day training meeting in Moraga. It was Tue - Fri from 9 am - 3 pm. We were trained by President Wade on the new curriculum that will be taught in the MTC, starting in May 2011. In the MTC they won't be teaching the missionary lessons anymore, but will focus on the more important missionary skills. For example, setting baptism dates, the Doctrine of Christ, inviting to church, etc. It was intense training. By day 4 we were all pretty tired, but I learned a lot. It was a great 4 days. Also on Sunday Aug 22nd Angel Mendez was baptized! She is a 9 year old girl that I taught in Pittsburg. I got to go back and speak at her baptism. It was a good service.

The other day we got out of our lesson with Sis. Jackson (a focus family) and her neighbor across the street was sitting by his front door smoking, so we went to talk to him. While we were talking to him we heard like 5 gun shots. Harold (the guy we were talking to) said "some fools shootin' a gun!". Just 2 blocks down the street a guy was shot dead. It happened like 7 blocks from our apartment. We live in the ghetto of SF.
