Letter to Home - August 2, 2010

Hey Family,

Things are well.  It has been a good pday.  We just got back from Golden Gate  Park.  The zone got together, had a BBQ, and played ultimate Frisbee.  It is still really cold and foggy here.  I cant believe that  last summer in Brentwood, it got up to 107, and know we are lucky if it gets above 70!  The members say that the summer is the coldest time of the year in San Francisco.

Well we had a good week.  We actually had a lesson with Angelica this morning.  It went well.  We invited her to be baptized, and she said that she will, once she feels ready.  So we were excited.  The only bad thing is that she works every Sunday and inst able to make it to church on Sunday.  But as she continues to progress, and learn, everything will work out.

Rex is doing okay.  Out of ANY investigator that I have ever taught, he is the most willing to be diligent in keeping his commitments.  He always reads and prays - without a doubt - and is always at church when he is able.  The only problem is, he feels that he lacks faith.  He wants the evidence.  We tried to teach the plan of salvation, and it frustrated him.  He didn't get it.  He is a very intelligent person, and he feels like he needs to understand everything all at once.  At our last lesson on Thursday, he said, "I feel like I'm wasting your time."  He was frustrated, and felt like he wasn't getting it fast enough.  We reassured him that spiritual growth takes time, and that as he continues to keep the commandments, and pray, that the answers will come.

So this is Elder Anderson's last week of his mission, and he is doing great.  He is staying very focused.  It is always weird having a companion that goes home.

The gospel is such a blessing.  The key to joy in this life is living the gospel.  That joy comes from knowing who we are, and where we are going.  We know the steps we need to take to return to our Heavenly home, because they have been restored in beautiful simplicity!

Well family I hope that you have another fantastic week!

-Elder Cook

PS. I think I'm fine with everything!  My clothes are holding up really well.
