June 14, 2010

So I haven't written very much at all since I've been here, so I thought I'd write about all of the people we are teaching right now. We are teaching some awesome people! First off is Sis. Webb (Karen Webb). She is in our family ward area. She is the craziest/funny lady that I've ever taught! I don't think I've ever loved an investigator more. She is a round little black lady in her 50's. She and her 12 year old daughter have been homeless for the past 10 years. They have been through a lot, but Sis. Webb is always full of energy. She is going bald, so she always wears these little hats that she knits (I call them "poofs!"), they kinda look like beanies but poofier. She always has the "praise Jesus" attitude about everything. During our lessons she LOVES to "dominate" the conversation. Sometimes it seems like she's preaching to us, but she is always grateful to God, because she is learning so much. She loves going up to the temple visitor's center. She said at the temple "I behold all of God's glory!" We love Sis. Webb. The first or second week I got here, we started teaching a girl named Michelle Chiu. She is from Chine, but speaks great English. She is one of the most prepared investigators that I have every seen! A friend at her work gave her a BoM and challenged her to go to church. So we met her at church and set up a time to start teaching her. Michelle asks the BEST questions! The spirit is teaching her, and she is progressing very well. Her baptism date is for June 26th. She has a very strong desire to know. On Sunday, we took her to the WHY I BELIEVE fireside in Oakland, and afterwards she said "If I knew like the people that bore their testimonies tonight know, then I would get baptized tonight!" She seems to be frustrated a little because she isn't realizing her answers as fast as she wants to. But the singles ward has really taken her in. It seems like they have all been best friends for a long time. Another SUPER prepared investigator that we are teaching is Nathan Charlton. Nathan's friend was in town, visiting from Los Angeles, and he came to church on Sunday and brought his friend Nathan. Nathan just moved to San Francisco from the LA area. So, Nathan loved church, and after church, me and Elder Anderson set up a meeting with him to teach him the first lesson. The first time we met with him we had an amazing lesson! He is prepared! He answered all our questions in the way that missionaries dream that their investigators would answer! His comments were golden. He said that he really felt good and really wants to know if Joseph Smith is a prophet.
