Letter to Home - August 16, 2010

Hello Family,

Well things are good.  I'm not going to lie, it was hard to send Elder Anderson home.  I don't think I've ever been as good of friends with any of my companions.  Its different being with Elder Kesler.  Its always a difficult change, changing companions, because you have to adjust to a whole new personality, teaching style, and habits of your new companion.  Elder Kesler is awesome and we are going to have a great transfer.  He has never been on the Peninsula and never been a Zone Leader, so its been stressful this week knowing that I have a lot more responsibility for the success of our zone.  But it is another great learning experience!

So this week we had a great lesson with Angelica!  She is progressing really well!  She is asking more questions, and continues to read and pray.  We taught her the Plan of Salvation this past week, and it really sparked her interest.  The Plan of Salvation is definitely my favorite lesson to teach investigators.  I've taken it for granted my whole life, but we are so blessed to know where we came from, why we are here and where we are going.  We always have a reason to be happy, because through Christ we always have hope.  Hope to change and become better.

We also had a great lesson with Rex.  He is beginning to recognize the spirit!  He is learning line upon line.  He has the deepest concerns of anyone that I have ever taught!  He is still 100% diligent at keeping his commitments.  We invited him to be baptized and he said yes!  Without hesitating!  The bad news is that he isn't willing to set a date.  He told us that he is a slow learner, but I know that he will be ready a lot sooner than he thinks!

This past week we had a Zone service project at the San Francisco Food Bank.  It was fun.
Nathan is also doing well.  He is golden!  I wish he could be baptized sooner but not for another year and a half.  His dad is very active in another Christian church, and he gets pressure to go to his church on Sunday.  He doesn't want to disappoint his dad by turning him down.

Well is is still very cold and very foggy here in the city.  People keep saying that summer is on its way!  I guess the fall is the nicest part of the year here in SF.  It has been weird to have the heater running all summer long, and wearing a coat in the middle of summer.

Well family I hope that you have a great week!  I love you!

-Elder Cook
